SAME SEX MARRIAGE IN INDIA

Marriage is a legal sanctioned union, usually between a man and a women that is regulated by laws, rules, customs, belief, and the duties that been given to the partners and accords status to their offspring. The universality of marriage within different societies and culture is attributed to the many basic social and personal functions. It provides structures, such as sexual gratitude and regulation, division of labour between the sexes, economic production, consumption and satisfaction of personal needs for affection, status and companionship. In India marriage is only about the growth of the generation, and also a licence to the loved couples to be together. Until the late 20th century, marriage was rarely a matter of free choice. In societies with arrange marriages, the almost universal custom is that someone acts as an intermediary, or matchmaker. Some form of dowry or bride wealth is almost always exchanged in societies that favour arranged marriage.

Individuals choose their own mates, dating is the most typical way for people to meet and become acquainted with prospective partner. Successful dating may results in marriage. Love comes in all forms. And it is always witnessed that people marry someone they love or it happens after marriage and always with opposite sex. But when we say about same sex marriage it sounds little awkward. People think directly how they will have babies and think this as nonsense. In other words, gone are the days when people had to be ashamed because of their sexuality. The society needs to be more inclusive of all kinds of people. It will make the world more happier place.

Same sex marriage is more than important in today’s time as the world is progressing. Everyone choose love over other things these days. It is better to spend the rest of your life with someone from same sex you love rather from opposite sex whom you don’t even know and like. The same sex marriage gives hope to other people, the LGBT community. They are human beings and should not be treated as aliens. This community already suffered a lot and still some are, due to discrimination. Same sex marriage is not encouraged in India. There are many countries where the law has been made for the same sex marriage, yet people are also open-minded. In India, neither the laws lenient but the people are also very narrow-minded. Most importantly, they never give these people a chance to prove themselves. Indian society does not like change. In India, people still needs time to resist the concept of same sex marriage. Not only in India, but in other countries people don’t support same sex marriage because they think it is against their religion.

When we talk about India, we see how it is progressing. Like how it ended Section 377, which criminalizes homosexuality. However, we still have a long way to go in terms of the LGBT community. Love is love, you can’t force someone to marry or love whom they don’t like. They will remain happy if they end up with the person they love, it may be opposite sex or same sex people.
