INCREAMENT OF RAPE CASES IN INDIA

Women have three births – a mother, daughter and a grandmother.  When girl children were born in families back in the ’70s and ’80s and some places still today, which was said as a burden to the family. There are also instances where parents sell off their girl child’s in the name of marriage due to financial constraints. We read about girl child rape and sexual exploitation in the daily newspaper. There are been instances where the father himself, cousin brother, uncle or neighbours have sexually abused or made them uncomfortable. If these kinds of things or incidents happens in a family then how any girl or woman can are safe outside their house. Rape is a very strong word connected to emotions. The word rape has been derived from a Latin word ‘rapio’ which means to take away. In rape it is forcibly snatched something from someone which is clearly is an offence. It is a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse carried out against a person without that person’s consent. People who have been raped are traumatized. Serious injuries can result along with the risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. A person may face violence or threats from the rapist, and sometimes, from the victim’s family and relatives.

One of the most important issues raised time and again is related to the size of dresses, that they tempt boys and men to be seduced. But they forget one thing that is consent, you have to get permission and if it is a No then you back off. Raising the boy’s right since birth is the most important factor that will lead to a decrease in a huge number of rape cases. The problem with Indian Society is that whenever any rape happens only the victim (girls or women) is to be blamed not the rapist. The victim goes through many questions and blames by the society and sometimes for the rape itself. But, when a murder happens no one questions the family but the murderer. Likewise, all the people of the Indian society are busy educating the victims how to prevent or protect themselves from rape. But no one tells or teaches the boys or the rapist the dos and don’ts.

Main reasons of increment –

  • Whenever a woman is being raped she is more likely to report her case to a female police officer.

  • Blaming of indecent clothing. The Indian society somehow assumes that the victim’s sense of clothing has brought them into that state.

  • Accepting domestic violence – UNICEF has declared in one of its report that 57% of Indian boys and 53% of girls think that the beating of a wife is justified.

  • Not safe in public – women, who drink, smoke or go late night parties and outings are seen as immoral in most of Indian society and the reason for being raped.

If the public themselves think and are okay with these kind of reasoning behind rape, then how will women in India feel safe in public. We all are equal, if you can fight for the rights of women in other fields then why not support them in this.
